Mepilex Up Soft Silicone Foam Dressing is a versatile, highly conformable wound dressing designed to manage wounds with low, moderate, and high levels of exudate. It combines an absorbent polyurethane foam layer with a gentle soft silicone wound contact layer to help protect the wound and surrounding skin during dressing changes.

The dressing is designed to maintain a moist wound environment while helping manage exudate and reduce the risk of excessive moisture affecting the surrounding skin. Its flexible construction allows it to conform comfortably to different wound shapes and body areas.

Dressing Construction

Mepilex Up consists of three main layers:

1. Soft silicone wound contact layer – designed for gentle, non-adherent contact with the wound.
2. Absorbent polyurethane foam pad – helps absorb and retain wound exudate.
3. Polyurethane outer film – breathable while providing a waterproof barrier.

Indications / Suitable Wound Types

Mepilex Up is intended for the management of a broad range of exuding wounds, including:

• Leg ulcers
• Foot ulcers
• Pressure ulcers
• Skin tears
• Traumatic wounds
• Wounds healing by secondary intention
• Other exuding wounds requiring an absorbent foam dressing

How to Use

1. Clean the wound according to appropriate clinical practice.
2. Thoroughly dry the skin surrounding the wound.
3. Select a suitable dressing size, ensuring sufficient overlap onto the surrounding skin.
4. Remove the first protective release film and place the adhesive side gently onto the wound.
5. Remove the remaining release film and smooth the dressing into position without stretching it.
6. If required, secure the dressing using an appropriate fixation method or bandage.
7. Replace the dressing when required according to wound condition and clinical practice, or earlier if it becomes saturated or leakage occurs.

Mepilex Up may be used beneath compression bandaging and in combination with wound gels where clinically appropriate.

Important Precautions

• Do not use in individuals with a known sensitivity or allergy to any of the dressing materials.
• Avoid use with oxidising agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide.
• Do not reuse the dressing. Reuse may reduce product performance and increase the risk of cross-contamination.
• If signs of infection occur, such as fever, increasing redness, warmth or swelling around the wound, seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
• Dispose of used dressings according to applicable local waste-disposal procedures.
